Whether you're envisioning your dream proposal, or simply staying in the loop with the latest styles, Lorna Haddon, head of diamonds and jewellery at Beaverbrooks, predicts the engagement ring trends that will dominate our Instagram feeds in 2024.

She tells us, "Whether you want your engagement ring to be loud and proud, or reserved, there's a diamond shape to suit every personality – and this variety will continue through 2024."

Lorna adds, "Pear-shaped engagement rings can be an elegant take on a contemporary look – perfect for those who want a bold, statement ring. The eye-catching stone has a sleek, elongated shape which can be showcased beautifully when placed on an embellished band. Or if timeless elegance is your preference, coupling the pear-shaped stone with a classic plain band is the perfect choice."

Oval-cut diamond rings have become one of the hottest trends of 2023, making headlines amongst celebrity engagements including Molly Mae and Barbara Palvin. Complementing the central oval cut diamond with an embellished band creates a fresh take – and adds an extra layer of sparkle. Lorna says: "If you're wanting to dazzle, surrounding the central diamond with an eye-catching halo can accentuate the core stone. Emerald-cut diamond rings are also popular this year and will be one to watch in 2024. There are so many ways you can wear this classic, vintage style, and one of the most popular trends we've seen is to showcase the central diamond among a shimmering halo of round, brilliant diamonds."

"Timeless, classic and elegant, the round brilliant cut is a staple example of an understated look and has been a favourite for generations – making it set to continue in popularity for years to come. This cut can truly maximise a diamond's brilliance and partnered with a row of shimmering diamonds on the ring band can accentuate the central stone. For a more simplistic style, opt for a plain band and let the diamond speak for itself!"

The three-stone ring became a huge hit in 2017 after Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle and it continues to be a firm favourite – Lana Del Rey also famously sported the style following her engagement to Clayton Johnson this year. Lorna says, "With a range of different metals and styles available, we can expect to see this unique engagement ring design popping up on our Instagram feeds through 2024. Three-stone engagement rings are the essence of enchanting sophistication, and certainly, make a statement. For those wanting to add a pop of colour, opting for emeralds, rubies or sapphires instead of diamonds creates a vintage design with contemporary styling. From engravings to secret gems or symbols, hidden details can add a touch of personalisation to your engagement ring. Christina Aguilera's infamous bezel-set diamond ring from her 2014 Valentine's Day engagement showcased bespoke hidden details, with multi-coloured gemstones set below the centre diamond. We can expect this sentimental feature to continue to grow in popularity – even 10 years on."
