Ibiza rocks

View from the rooftop at Aguas de Ibiza

Nestled on the east coast of the island is this eco-conscious, five-star resort that's reached by flying directly to Ibiza airport. From the moment I arrived, the chilled, laid-back vibe in this sustainably chic, design-led setting welcomed me. Aguas de Ibiza has been awarded one of the best hotels in Ibiza for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint with innovative technology such as smart building automation, solar panels and charging stations for electric vehicles.

The bathroom in a Premier Bay Room at Aguas de Ibiza

Room with a view
I was excited to stay at this environmentally friendly and gastronomy-focussed hotel (open from late March until the end of October), home to 145 spacious suites and bedrooms. As I checked into the Premier Bay Room, the deep-set, freestanding bathtub greeted me, perched overlooking the bedroom and beyond to the private terrace. From here, the spectacular views stretch across to the yacht marina and palm tree-fringed promenade, running the length of the sandy beach, accessed directly from the hotel grounds - a great way to discover this area is by renting a bike from the hotel.

A bedroom at Aguas de Ibiza

Decorated in ethereal natural tones and furnished with Mediterranean decor to reflect the essence of the island, the luxurious rooms marry contemporary features with traditional touches arranged in the ancient art of feng shui. Some of the best offerings for honeymooners include the spacious Junior Suites with sea views of Formentera Island from the private terraces and the Cloud 9 Suites.

Breakfast at Oligo restaurant at Aguas de Ibiza

Food, glorious food
The relaxed Oligo restaurant is open for breakfast, with its large terrace providing a shady spot. I was spoilt for choice with the buffet of healthy açaí bowls mixed with banana, coco and goji berries, the chia puddings, fresh local pastries and a selection of cold meats and cheese varieties. The à la carte menu included mouth-watering waffles, pancakes, omelettes and more.

Dessert at lunch at Alabastro restaurant at Aguas de Ibiza

The Alabastro restaurant caters for lunch and private gatherings. This relaxed indoor and outdoor setting is decorated Ibiza-style with vibrant pops of colour against the poolside setting. It specialises in creating dishes using only the freshest and finest local ingredients sourced from the island. I couldn't resist the tasting menu from which I sampled the avocado and feta, roasted chicken croquettes and the grilled cod loin mixed with potato and garlic cream, pak choi and onions with honey. The delicious dessert enjoyed from the comfort of a nearby sun lounger was a Caribbean-inspired white chocolate mousse and almond crumble with maracujá cream washed down with a glass of fizz!

Interior of Maymanta restaurant at Aguas de Ibiza

The sky's the limit
I was impressed by the fashionable setting, fine dining offering and impeccable service at the recently reopened Maymanta restaurant on the hotel's sun-soaked rooftop. Sat beside the infinity pool, the panoramic view of the port of Santa Eulalia and beyond isn't to be missed, especially at night. Maymanta, known for its exotic nutritional dishes inspired by Peru and Latin America with a Mediterranean flair suits its surroundings in Santa Eulalia which enjoys a reputation as the island's gastronomic (and cultural) heart of Ibiza.

Those on honeymoon at the hotel should book a table for two with a view and tuck into the tasting menu. Sourdough bread, lima croquettes and patacones are served alongside ceviche and sautéed tenderloin. The dessert of panacota washed down with a pisco sour cocktail (or two) is a must-try!Run by chef Omar Malpartida, a new group dining experience for a minimum of 12 guests serves food cooked in the open kitchen. It's ideal for weddings with exclusive-use celebrations enjoying the entire rooftop. Destination weddings are popular here, especially during September and October with many couples from the UK booking three-day mini breaks with their guests.

Me at the rooftop bar at Aguas de Ibiza

To infinity and beyond
The Rooftop Bar, a social spot serving up colourful cocktails and mocktails is the place to watch the famous Ibiza sunset. Sun worshippers can swim in the two adult-only infinity pools on this wow-factor rooftop flanked by fashionable rattan loungers and some of the most comfortable sunbeds I've ever relaxed on.

The Kids club at Aguas de ibiza

Those enjoying a family-moon on the White Isle can make a splash in the main pool on the ground floor, with its underwater speakers and heated children's pool close by, surrounded by Balinese beds. There's also an on-site Kids Club to entertain the little ones, encouraging them to enjoy daily activities like Earth Day.

The Revival Spa by Clarins at Aguas de Ibiza

Balearic beauty
Couples wanting a holistic honeymoon focussing on wellness can enjoy the Revival Spa by Clarins, a private, calm oasis inspired by nature that's also open to non-resident guests. The spacious thermal area is home to rain showers, an ice fountain, a Roman bath, a Finnish sauna, a hammam and hot and cold pools featuring jets and water beds.

Ideal for post-wedding pampering, three bespoke wellness programmes, the Detox, Weight Loss and Fitness programmes blend exercise with nutrition and spa treatments to help restore general well-being.
The massages at this sprawling sanctuary aren't to be missed! My rebalancing massage with essential oils carried out by the experienced therapist Giovanni was one of the best I have ever experienced - he listened to my needs and tailored the treatment for me.
