Appleby Castle is a grand yet homely fortress situated within acres of charming woodland. There are plenty of places to explore and take photographs, including the river, lawns, secret historic follies and Yew tree avenue which can be lit with trailing lights to create dramatic lighting. There are plans underway for a butterfly meadow to open, which will create a stunning contrast to the grandeur of the buildings. Inside the property are antiques, roaring fires, romantic nooks and heaps of character and history.

Celebrate in style
There are several spaces available for weddings. One of the most popular is the Great Hall which has a jaw-dropping suit of armour perched over the fireplace and high ceilings that add a sense of drama.

Couples looking for a more intimate setting can choose from the oak-panelled rooms, which can be transformed into a romantic dining area for the evening.

Al fresco celebrations take place in either the Yew tree avenue, butterfly meadow or ornate pagoda. The lawns in front of the main staircase are also available.

The Keep is currently being restored to its former glory and is available for ceremonies.
